Federal Employees With Mental Disabilities:
Effectively Evaluating Claims and Requests for Reasonable Accommodation

Gary Gilbert, Federal Employment Law Attorney, Author, Former EEOC Chief AJ
Ernest Hadley, Federal Employment Law Attorney, Author

From securing and sharing medical documentation appropriately to providing effective accommodations — federal HR and EEO specialists encounter numerous challenges employing workers with mental disabilities. And, you not only have to comply with the ADA and the Rehabilitation Act to protect the employee, but you also need to ensure that the employee is performing his/her job to set standards.

In this 90-minute audio conference, federal employment law attorneys and experts Gary Gilbert and Ernest Hadley will provide you with practical solutions and alert you to common pitfalls.

Plus, you’ll find out how to effectively:

            •     Evaluate mental disability claims and requests for
                  reasonable accommodations

            •    Determine when accommodation is appropriate or
when it may cause an undue hardship

            •    Identify the appropriate circumstances for a
                 fitness-for-duty examination

            •    Handle medical examinations and inquiries while
                  maintaining confidentiality

What’s more, you’ll learn specific strategies to handle situations when accommodation is not possible or would cause an undue hardship.

You’ll discover the answers to these questions and more:

            •    Is a mental impairment that affects employees
only or primarily at work considered a disability
                 under the ADA?

            •    Can a change in supervision be a reasonable
                 accommodaion?
